Caterpillars

Image
This is a caterpillar. I got a pretty good picture, didn't I? It was eating the cabbage I planted so I had to take it off. I have been reading to get this information. Caterpillars eat leaves, but if you need to take it off, let it crawl up to your hand or something else, because then you could hurt it or rip it's legs off. Yellow jackets, birds, ladybird beetles, and even some people eat caterpillars. But don't find your own caterpillar and eat it, only at some places people eat them.  Here is the lifecycle of caterpillars. First a caterpillar is an egg, and it hatches. Then it eats the leaf it was born on. It eventually turns into a chrysalis, and in it it forms into a butterfly. When it crawls out, it's wings are folded and soft but eventually the wings are ready to fly, and it pumps blood into them and tries to fly. They learn usually before three or four hours. Katydid (Leaf bug)

Image
This is a katydid (or some people call it leaf bug). I found it on my window. It gets its name from the sound it makes, which sounds like "ka-ty-did". As you probably noticed, it looks almost exactly like a leaf, and it even has the special markings that a leaf has. It looks like that because it has camouflage. It eats leafs from the tops of bushes and trees, and flies away when there is danger nearby. Spiders, frogs, birds, bats, snakes, and other things that eat insects eat katydids. If you would like to take care of one, I don't want something to go wrong, so go to wiki how, and look up how to take care of katydids. I hope you enjoyed, feel free to leave a comment, and I'm off to nature!

Daylilies

Image
This is a daylily. I have been reading to get this information. It's botanical name is hemerocallis and hemerocallis means beauty for a day. It means that because most daylilies open in the morning and die by night. But right after one dies, the next one opens so the stem keeps having daylilies for several weeks. Also, they come back every year.  Some types of daylilies are Barbara Mitchell, Lady Lucille, and Red volunteer. I wonder why they have real human names. Maybe I'll look that up. Here is how you plant daylilies: The soil should be loose where you plant them. The hole you dig should be at least 1 foot deep and bigger then the root mass. Put a mound of dirt at the bottom of the hole. Put in the daylily with the roots spread on all sides. They get better flowers in full sun and in moist well drained soil. In my opinion, daylilies are nice flowers to have, and it's not waste of time and flowers because they keep blooming. I hope you enjoyed, ...

Tree of Heaven

Image
This is the tree of heaven. I have been reading to get this information. Although it is pretty (and for some reason in my backyard), it is highly invasive and should not be planted in Ohio. This tree was brought to this country as a source of food for silkworms. It didn't work, but the tree kept growing and stayed. It's called the tree of heaven because it is so tall, as tall as 80 feet (when mature) and 40 feet wide (when mature). This tree in my backyard is not as healthy so it's not as tall, but it's what a healthy one looks like (and it's a good thing it isn't healthy so I could have other trees). If you would like to learn ore about this tree, go to forestry.Ohiodnr.gov. I hope you enjoyed, feel free to leave a comment, and remember, don't plant this in Ohio.

I love nature

This is the story on how I became a blogger about nature. For a while I didn't have a hobby. I wanted to have a hobby that has to do with animals. I especially wanted one with nature, and eventually I wanted one with photography. We looked up animal shelters and if I could volunteer, but I was too young. The most I could do with nature is spend time in the back yard and walk on trails. I could take pictures, but that wasn't enough. But eventually I got the idea to have a blog about nature, and now I have my first blog.
