Daylilies

This is a daylily. I have been reading to get this information. It's botanical name is hemerocallis and hemerocallis means beauty for a day. It means that because most daylilies open in the morning and die by night. But right after one dies, the next one opens so the stem keeps having daylilies for several weeks. Also, they come back every year.
Some types of daylilies are Barbara Mitchell, Lady Lucille, and Red volunteer. I wonder why they have real human names. Maybe I'll look that up.

Here is how you plant daylilies:

The soil should be loose where you plant them. The hole you dig should be at least 1 foot deep and bigger then the root mass. Put a mound of dirt at the bottom of the hole. Put in the daylily with the roots spread on all sides. They get better flowers in full sun and in moist well drained soil.

In my opinion, daylilies are nice flowers to have, and it's not waste of time and flowers because they keep blooming. I hope you enjoyed, if you have questions or want to say something, feel free to leave a comment. Off to nature!

  1. Hi Chloe. I enjoyed your blog post on day lilies. We have some orange and yellow ones. How many colors do you think they have?
