I love nature

This is the story on how I became a blogger about nature. For a while I didn't have a hobby. I wanted to have a hobby that has to do with animals. I especially wanted one with nature, and eventually I wanted one with photography. We looked up animal shelters and if I could volunteer, but I was too young. The most I could do with nature is spend time in the back yard and walk on trails. I could take pictures, but that wasn't enough. But eventually I got the idea to have a blog about nature, and now I have my first blog.

This is a daylily. I have been reading to get this information. It's botanical name is hemerocallis and hemerocallis means beauty for a day. It means that because most daylilies open in the morning and die by night. But right after one dies, the next one opens so the stem keeps having daylilies for several weeks. Also, they come back every year.  Some types of daylilies are Barbara Mitchell, Lady Lucille, and Red volunteer. I wonder why they have real human names. Maybe I'll look that up. Here is how you plant daylilies: The soil should be loose where you plant them. The hole you dig should be at least 1 foot deep and bigger then the root mass. Put a mound of dirt at the bottom of the hole. Put in the daylily with the roots spread on all sides. They get better flowers in full sun and in moist well drained soil. Tree of Heaven

This is the tree of heaven. I have been reading to get this information. Although it is pretty (and for some reason in my backyard), it is highly invasive and should not be planted in Ohio. This tree was brought to this country as a source of food for silkworms. It didn't work, but the tree kept growing and stayed. It's called the tree of heaven because it is so tall, as tall as 80 feet (when mature) and 40 feet wide (when mature). This tree in my backyard is not as healthy so it's not as tall, but it's what a healthy one looks like (and it's a good thing it isn't healthy so I could have other trees).
